In May 2022, UArts Staff won our union with an 85% Yes Vote.
At the time of the University of the Arts closure in June 2024,
the UArts Staff Union was in the final stages of negotiating our first union contract.
The members of the UArts Staff Union worked together to share resources and support for the entire University community during the closure process.
We have said it many times:
Without our Union, we would have been lost during this terrible process.
University of the Arts
Staff Union
Mission Statement
We, the part-time and full-time staff of University of the Arts, are dedicated to supporting students and faculty to achieve a high quality, personal learning experience that aligns with the University’s core values of integrity, diversity, excellence, and creativity. As essential members of the UArts community, we are forming a union because a thriving institution depends on staff who are empowered and protected by stability, respect, and due process.
To effectively sustain a quality educational environment, and to meet the challenges facing higher education today, we need to create a structure for accountability, transparency, and shared decision-making. We seek improvements to conditions for staff such as job security, work definition, work-life balance, equitable pay, cost-of-living increases, promotions, benefits, facilities, and professional development. Our union will be committed to dignity, fairness, and opportunity for the entire University.
We call upon the University of the Arts administration to support a free and fair election for staff unionization.
